Karis Kids

Karis Kids is a new initiative which brings hope to children orphaned by AIDS in Uganda. Rather than leave them without the necessities of life that we take for granted, such as food, medical care and education, we aim to integrate them into and support them within adoptive families. We hope to provide support for the whole family – with relationship, opportunity, finance, encouragement and prayer.

"God sets the lonely in families" --Psalm 68: 6

Karis Kids was born out of great need. Until recently, over one tenth of the world’s AIDS orphans were to be found in Uganda, a country in which half the population is less than 15 years old. Relationship is all important; family to family and church to church

At Winvin, we are linked with a church in Kampala called All Saints Cathedral. We support a full time community worker attached to All Saints Cathedral, who administers the project in Kampala and works closely with every family. The majority of our placement families live in the slums in Kampala .We aim to place orphans with the families of relatives, but when this is not possible, then with other households in the local church

We already have ten linked Winvin family units with the first ten Ugandan families, and there are plans for more. The UK support families come in many forms: a group of singles, one parent families, nuclear and extended families, church housegroups – any combination of individuals who have a heart for Karis Kids

Support from the UK of £50 per month provides each family with school fees, medical expenses, clothes, shoes, food and soap. All Saints also organises regular get togethers for the families focusing on parenting skills, life skills, and offering pastoral support
